Graduation Day
Graduation Day - Joelle Charbonneau
This review was originally posted on Bookish Things & MoreThis one had me on the edge of my seat. How is she going to do what is asked of her? Who is she going to trust to help her get the job done?

The conclusion plays a major focus on the decisions that Cia must make. Can she do what has been asked of her? Cia still goes through things with a logical approach. Even when there is a time crunch. She does everything in her power to expose the government, and get to the bottom of it.

I was second guessing all of my original thoughts as I was reading. This book kept me on edge and was a satisfying ending to the series.

Independent Study
Independent Study - Joelle Charbonneau
This review was originally posted on Bookish Things & MoreThe next book in this series had me antsy. I didn’t know what to expect, or how things were going to play out.

I didn’t want Cia to have to go through some of the things that she had to. And some of the others in her area of study are lethal. They will do whatever they need to in order to get ahead. It’s terrifying. And not only that, but they have to go through more tests. It’s like hazing, on a deadly level.

After reading I’m ready for the next book.

The Testing
The Testing - Joelle Charbonneau
This review was originally posted on Bookish Things & MoreI never thought I’d find a book that gave me the same feelings I had when I read The Hunger Games. The testing totally gave me that feeling.

It has a sort of Hunger Games feel to it, but so much worse. Who would want to be part of a program without knowing exactly what is going to happen. The mysteriousness of it would have me running the other direction.

I did like Cia. At times she’s very child-like, but I appreciated the fact that she thinks things through. She’s so good hearted, and really wants everyone to succeed. I love that about her. She doesn’t become jaded by the events that take place. She’s smart, and makes decisions that will benefit almost everyone.

I definitely wouldn’t want to be in her shoes while making the choices she has to make.

More Than Enough
More Than Enough - Jay McLean
This review was originally posted on Bookish Things & MoreI fell in love with this book. The hardships the characters go through completely break my heart. But I love the friendships Jake and Mikayla have. And I think Jake’s friends are amazing in the way that they form a support for Mikayla.

I can’t even imagine going through what they go through. Both try to be so strong for each other, and sometimes you have to take a step back to appreciate what’s right in front of you.

So much love for this book.

I’m not going to lie. I had a hard time reading this book.  And, no, not because it was a bad book. But because it is a book that will have parents hugging their children extra hard, and questioning everything.

I really enjoyed the way the story is told, and the characters.  You felt like you were in the heads, and could feel what they felt.  There are also multiple perspectives in different time lines.  It puts you in pivotal moments and some that you would rather escape.

Jean is a very complex character.  You know she’s hiding something, but you don’t know what.  And I hated the way her husband belittled her.  He treated her like a child.
Like I said before, this book isn’t for the faint of heart.  It had me up at night after reading, and hoping I would never go through what some of these characters have gone through. It’s amazing how much a story can take over your thoughts, and make you feel a million different emotions at once.

In the Afterlight
In the Afterlight - Alexandra Bracken

This book is definitely intense.  Not only in character development, but also in how these characters deal with situations they are thrown in.

I have always loved Ruby. She's fierce, and she has no issue doing whatever has to be done in order to have a favorable outcome.  She does question a lot of her past actions in this book.  She struggles with the morality of some of those choices, and fears she could be more like Clancy than she wishes.

In the Afterlight has so many twists and turns.  I found myself holding my breath to hear what the outcome was going to be.  There's also a lot of sibling rivalry going on with Liam and Cole.  They each have their methods of getting things done, and it causes a ton of arguments.

There's this one scene that made me tear up because it's absolutely beautiful in how it's portrayed and the message it sends is amazing.  But I can't tell you what that is because you know spoilers.  But it has really stuck with me after reading it.

I'm definitely going to miss this series, but it will be one that I go back to read again.  It's dark, hopeful, and has you cheering for these kids and what they stand for.

A Stone in the Sea

A Stone in the Sea had me all over the place. I’ve been in sort of the same situation as Shea, and I can tell you, it’s terrifying.  How do you know you aren’t making a huge mistake.

Sebastian is a total alpha male.  He just oozes sexiness, even when you know he’s got trouble written all over him.  But he also has very tender moments.  He has a messed up past, and doesn’t know if he should really pursue anything with Shea.  He doesn’t want to drag her into the madness that’s his life.
There were so many ups and downs, and I loved the every minute of it.  I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.  That ending was a doozy.

Quickie Review

This is the first book I read in this series, and I'll definitely be going back to read the rest of them.

I've read a few MC books, and this is definitely one that I'll be adding to the ranks.  I loved the intensity between Valentina and Arden.  It's like things line up for them.  I did question how she could go from the situation she was in to seeing where things go with Arden, but it's a novella, and I knew it needed to happen fast.

The steamy scenes are hot, and I love alpha males.  But I like it even more when the girls make their wants known.  The romance is fun, intense, and full of surprises. And I love the friendships that Valentina makes.  She definitely needs some pals she can rely on.

Overall, it was a good novella, and I need to go back to read the first books in this series so I can meet the other members of the Wind Dragons MC Club.

Hexed (Iron Druid Chronicles, #2)
Hexed (Iron Druid Chronicles, #2) - Kevin Hearne

Quickie Review

After the struggles faced in Hounded, Atticus finds himself in more trouble.  He can't seem to win for losing.  Atticus finds himself stuck between two goddesses, and has to figure out what is killing people in the area.  Not only are there crazy witches with a score to settle, but there are also demons roaming around.

I love the humor in these books.  Even when it looks like the shit is about to hit the fan, Atticus manages to find the bright side. Or at least make things a little more enjoyable.  He's a complete smart ass unless he's face to face with someone who could kill him.  We also get to meet Coyote, who is the local god of mischief.

After the way this book ended, I can't wait to see what happens next.  This is definitely a series I can get behind.

Quickie Review

While listening to this book, it reminded me a lot of the movie Running with Scissors.  The Watkins are really quirky, and unconventional.  They are hiding something but Julie can't figure it out.

There are some hilarious moments.  The status updates would have me giggling, and the way Julie responds to situations are funny at times.  She takes it all in, and just goes with the flow.

I kind of figured out what was going on by the middle of the book, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable.  I loved seeing how Julie's presence help this family.  Things needed to be said and actions needed to be taken in order for the Watkins to become a family again.

There are ups and downs, broken hearts, and tragic situations.  Overall, there is growth and coming to terms with things that have happened.

Last Call is a must read.  I adored Tricky and Rose.  Well, I've always love them, but it was great seeing their story.  There are bad dates, awkward moments, steamy scenes, and emotions.  I also love this group of friends.  They are there for each other no matter what.  And I think that is what drives this book home more than anything else.  Friendship is definitely a great thing to have in your corner.

A great book, and I can't wait to see what else Hart brings us!

I really enjoyed the plot of this book.  Weird things happening in dreams is pretty crazy, but I love seeing what was going to happen throughout the book.

Liv is a fun character.  She is smart and witty.  And if someone tells her not to do something, she's going to make sure she does is.  The other characters add a ton to the story too.  They each have their own little quirks and can be relied on to help the story have more impact or break the tension.

The only thing that I didn't like is the story seemed to drag in some areas.  Otherwise it was a good story, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I absolutely adored this book.

I love Willa.  She’s intelligent and doesn’t know how to adjust to what her new life is going to be. She thought she shared everything with her father, but this new surprise shows just how much she doesn’t know. My heart broke for her when this news is just sprung on her. She deals with it well enough considering the level of famous her dad’s fiancee is.

Finn is totally hot, but maybe not all what he seems to be.  He hides behind his mask, and you never know if what he’s doing is real or for show.  He has so many walls up it’ll be hard to tear them down.  There are definitely sweet moments, but then he acts like a selfish punk, and you get frustrated again.

I love the way these two interact with each other. They fight attraction, and throw words back and forth.

And what Finn does for Willa….. swoon!

This is a great series, and I can’t wait to read more about these students in Austin.
