The Summer I Fell - Sonya Loveday

Review

I absolutely love this group of friends, and how protective they are of Riley.

Riley doesn’t have many friends, except for the Six: Jared, Ace, Mark, Aiden and Eli. She’s used to being one of the guys, and constantly gets crap from the girls that want to be with them.  She tries to do everything she can by herself.  She’s a tough girl that has no qualms doing manual labor.  I admire her for being such a strong female character.  I love that each person in the group brings their own personality, and makes them all whole.  I also love how loyal Paige is Riley.  She’s the best friend a girl can have.

I always love Southern books.  They have their own feel to them.  It’s hard to explain, but it could also be because I’m from the south.  Most of the book is Riley coming to grips with all of her best friends leaving.  They have all chosen different paths for their lives.  Riley isn’t sure what she’s going to do without them there to keep her company.  I adored the love story, even if it’s bittersweet.  I also like that Riley learns more about herself throughout the book, even when she seems like she’s falling apart.

There is love, heartbreak, and tragedy.  All of these things will keep you enthralled from beginning to end.  There is a cliffhanger.  I can’t wait for the next book after the way this one ended.
