Vengeance Road - Erin Bowman

Review

This book is exactly what I was looking for! I've never really read a western, but I've grown up watching a lot of John Wayne.

Vengeance Road felt very much like the movies I watched as a kid.  There are gun fights, chases across the plains, and possible romance.

I really liked Kate.  She's fierce, and though I think she shouldn't have gone looking for those that murdered her father, she was brave for doing it.  I also adored Jesse.  He's rough around the edges, and a little preachy at times, but he tries to stand by the promise he made his father.

I did respect that Bowman didn't shy away from things that did happen in that time period.  She doesn't sugarcoat it, and you feel like you are there with the characters.  You feel the same emotions they do, and despise the same people they do.

I think Vengeance Road does an amazing job of showing that maybe what you set out to do doesn't make you feel the way you thought it would.  It also shows how amazing friendship and trust can be.
