I haven't read many retellings, but this one was great! It definitely reminds me of Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. I'm glad there weren't singing mice or anything. That would have been weird considering we are dealing with cyborgs in a futuristic society. Cinder's world is turned upside down when her sister falls ill with letumosis. Nobody survives it, and that terrifies Cinder. She is then sent to a lab to be tested. Only the doctor finds something and isn't exactly forthcoming with the results. Cinder meets Prince Kai, the most eligible bachelor in New Beijing. She struggles to keep herself distanced in order to keep her secret, she's a cyborg. The story line was fast paced and very enjoyable. I didn't want to put the book down. You not only have to worry about Cinder's stepmother, but also these Lunar people. They are creepy. I would be lying if I said I didn't see a few things coming, but it didn't keep me from wanting more. The characters were well written. Cinder is determined and loyal. Even when she is trying to cope with quite a few things thrown at her, she manages to stay strong and try to do what's right. Cinder battles the same insecurities every girl does. She always manages to find something bad about her instead of looking at the good. Kai is a great guy. He doesn't like to be bullied, but is loyal to his people and will do whatever is necessary to protect them. He is honorable and I want to see what choices he will make in the sequel.Though most of the book is in Cinder's point of view, some parts are seen from Kai's eyes. I loved that Meyer did this. We are able to have a better grasp of what is happening and how it pertains to other events. I can't wait to see what happens in Scarlet!!!!
