A Shade of Vampire (A Shade Of Vampire, #1) - Bella Forrest
A Shade of Vampire is a very quick read. It took me about a day, with my daily interruptions, to read this. I really liked the premise for this book, but it fell a little short for me. As I said, I liked the story line, I just felt like it wasn't fleshed out well. The Shade is this incredible place, that I didn't think was described well enough. Even though it's a part of our current world, it's a world of its own, and needed to be built upon. I did love the fact that this book portrays vampires as awful predators. They aren't all cuddly and cute, and they have almost no regard for human life. They use humans as a means to get things done for them. Another problem I have is with Sofia's character. The way she thinks about herself is the complete opposite of her actions. She believes she's weak and useless, but she acts totally fierce and takes up for others. That inconsistency bugged me. The other characters are great. Derek is a complex guy. He may be the head honcho of the Shade, but he has deep feelings about where he stands. Does he really want to be a monster???? Lucas is scary as hell. He's mean, and thinks he can take whatever he wants. He has no regard for anything, and he fights dirty.Even with the issues I have, I will continue on with this series. The concept intrigues me, and I want to see where she goes with it.
